This is one of the most sought after marbles in the antique handmade marble world: An English style onionskin lutz. The base glass of the marble is clear with streaks and ribbons of golden yellow interspersed with bands and streaks heavily loaded with bright shiny goldstone or lutz. One of the pontil marks is a very small melted pig-tail and the other is unfinished. The unfinished pontil marks and the exceptionally bright coloring is indicative of those made between 1870 and 1910, many of which were expressly for the English game board market, hence the term 'English Style'.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 PRISTINE! The only reason I didn't grade the marble at 9.9 is there is a little bit of wrinkling in the glass near one of the pontil marks. Exquisite! You may click here to view the grading system I use. | |||||
