Here is one of the more sought after marbles in the collecting world. Hardly any handmade collection is complete without a Peppermint swirl. This one is of the beachball banded transparent type with four wide panels of white separated by red and blue ribbons, all over a transparent base glass. The pontail marks are both unfinished, indicating a manufacture date of the late nineteenth or very early twentieth centuries. These were originally produced as a tribute to America's first centenial and became one of the most popular of all the marbles shipped to this country.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.8 I can find no evidence of play or even wear, but there is a considerable amount of micro-pitting that shows up in the super-enlarged pictures, as well as some dirt stain in the pontail marks. You may click here to view the grading system I use. | |||||
