Here is an extraordinarily rare old German handmade caged CLAMBROTH with eighteen bands, nine blue and nine pink, running from pontail to pontail on a translucent white and very soft base glass. The pontail marks are both unfinished indicating a manufacture date of 1880-1910.
It is very difficult to find any clambroth with more than a single color and especially in this wonderful mint condition and huge size of only 3/32" less than an inch. CONDITION: MINT 9.3 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of wear at all--the pontail marks are as clean as the day it left the factory. There are a couple of clearly as-made melted dimples and close inspection with a bright light and lense shows some tiny fish-eyes, circles, that are most likely some sort of annealing problem associated with the soft glass used to make these marbles, or possibly contact with other marbles in a box or jar, but I don't really think so. This marble appears to have never had any use except to look at. You may click here to view the grading system I use. | |||||
