I am by no means an expert on these old natural stone agates, but I do recognize, by the tiny facets left on the surface of the marble, that this is one of the old hand ground type. If you look closely at the pictures you can see the facets by the irregularity of the shine from the lights. I've used backlighting for the fourth picture to show the translucence of the "agate" material used. The great density of these old shooters wrecked havoc with glass marbles in any games where shooting was involved--they were nearly indestructable themselves, and would quite often break glass marbles into pieces.
CONDITION: I don't see any actual signs of play or wear. There are no scratches or signs of wear, but there are a number of flakes. They all look like the results of flaws in the agate that occured during the grinding process. You may click here to view the grading system I use. | |||||
