More rare than any of the oxbloods, this hybrid tightline Superman is one of the earlier efforts by the Akro Agate company. Red, yellow, and robins-egg blue with blends spin several times around each other creating this most amazing and desireable corkscrew.
It is only a deduction, or guess, on my part, but I think the glass would have had to be hotter than usual to produce a less dense glass required to cause this sort of pattern to be made. Another result of the less dense glass would be to make the marbles more susceptable to flaws during the finishing process. This would account for most of these tightlines being discarded and that most of them ever seen are those that were dug from the old Akro site. At any rate, it is one of only two or three that I've ever seen, and the only one I've ever actually held, that wasn't either polished or so chewed up that they weren't worth collecting. CONDITION: MINT(-) 9.2 to NEAR MINT(+) 8.8 The surface is bright and shiny with what looks like some shallow wear, but close examination with a bright light and lens shows that what appear to be scratches are more like scuff marks with a rather melted look that were made during production. There is also some almost microscopic pitting that are likely the result of sand or some other debris on the rollers. This is all hard to see, even with these enlarged pictures--if you are using microsoft explorer, you can press the [cntrl] and the [+] key to even further enlarge the images to help you see what I mean.
