7/8" Antique German Handmade Striped Solid Core Swirl

Item# GM1518
Under close inspection, there appears to be a yellow solid core with evenly spaced, transparent red and green stripes running from pole to pole surrounded by a gooseberry-like cage just below the surface. One exquisitely ground pontail mark on one end and a nearly obliterated melted pig-tail on the other help to date this marble to the mid nineteenth century, circa 1850-1880.
CONDITION: MINT(-) 9.1: I can't actually see any wear or signs of play or use on the surface of this marble, but I also don't see the wet shiny look usually associated with a mint marble. Using a bright light and printer's loupe, the dullness appears to be caused by nearly microscopic pitting, such as you might expect if the finishing tool were covered in some sort of fine dust or grit, or more likely, exceedingly tiny fizz-sized bubbles that made it all the way to the surface. Click on the first picture to view a greatly enlarged image and you can see better what I'm talking about and that the anomolies are so miniscule that it couldn't have been the result of play or any kind of wear that I've ever seen. It all looks as-made to me.

Size 22.01mm or 0.867" at the equator.
