I try to not list marbles on this site unless they are mint or very rare, and this one certainly falls into that category. The wispy white striations make the marble fit in well with a Popeye display, but a closer look shows that the base glass is not clear but rather semi-cloudy, more like a SILVER OXBLOOD, except, in addition to the rich and heavy oxblood on the surface, there is a green corkscrew following just below. I don't know that I've ever seen one quite like it.
So, if you demand that all of your marbles be in mint condition, then this one doesn't quite qualify, but if you are looking for a very, very rare and different example of an early American marble, then you've found it. CONDITION: NEAR MINT 8.8 The surface is nice and shiny with a wet look, but there are tiny pinpricks here and there around the marble. For the most part, these are not readily noticeable when with the display but show up easily enough when viewed under magnification or these greatly enlarged pictures.
