1-1/16" Antique English Style BANDED SOLID CORE Swirl

Item# GM1557
The base glass is clear with four sets of equally spaced triple lattice ribbons just beneath the surface and opposing blue and red bands riding the length of a well centered solid white core. The exceptionally clear glass and bright colors, along with two unfinished pontail marks help to define this as one of the more recent German handmades of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The "English Style" label is used for this type because of their primary use in the British game board market. These larger examples were probably used as salesmen's samples and are quite rare.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT 8.7 The surface is wet and shiny like a mint marble but there are a couple of bruises and dings that are easily seen in the pictures. I don't see any signs of wear and the pontail marks are as clean as the day it was made. My guess is the marble was never actually played with, but it looks like it was dropped on a hard surface and bounced a couple of times.
