What a beautifully designed and engineered example of the German marble master's art. From the three nearly perfectly spaced and positioned multicolored ribbons at the core of the crystal clear base glass to the eligant cage just below the surface, this marble shows just what a premier glass craftsman is capable of.
One pontail mark is exquisitely ground and the other is melted to near oblivion indicating the marble was made during the early glass marble period, circa 1850-1880--judging by the red, white, and blue configuration, probably to show respect to America's first cintennial of 1876. It has been and is getting harder all the time to find these old German handmades, of any size, in this wonderful MINT condition, and at just 1/64" less thana full 1-3/4", this jewell qualifies as a true museum piece. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 Pristine, wet shiny surface with no sign of play or wear of any kind. There may be some microscopic as-mades, but even using a bright light and 20x printer's loupe, I am hard pressed to find any. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 43.96mm or 0.730" at the equator. | |||||
