This is an Akro Agate LIMEADE corkscrew, or swirl, if you prefer--the two toned green ribbon is followed around a highly UV reactive green vaseline base glass by a thin white ribbon of opaque white. The pattern follows continually from pole to pole, but sort of breaks up around the middle as the colors loose some of their symetry. As with all of the Akro ADE family, the base glass recipe includes uranium oxide, the component that causes the glow when expose to ultra violet light.
The legal use of uranium was suspended in 1940 due to it's demand for the Manhatten Project--The development of the Atomic Bomb. By the time legal use was restored, the Akro Agate company was out of business; therefore, all of the ADE family of marbles was made prior to 1940. CONDITION: MINT 9.5 Wet shiny surface with no evidence of play or wear at all. There is a tiny melted dimple visible in the first picture and a single needle point prick that you can see at the top of the fifth. Also, the marble is slightly out of round, but not at all noticeable until I took these pictures. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.33mm or 0.643" at the equator. | |||||
