It is reported that these old Red, White, and BLue FLAG marbles were made to honour the 100th birthday of the United States, circa 1876. The unfinished pontail marks further the evidence of a manufacture date during the late Victorian period, circa 1870-1910.
NAKED marbles, those without any outer decorations, are all rather rare, especially the SINGLE RIBBON examples -- even more so in this extra-large size and excellent condition. These were obviously favorite shooters of their young owners in as much as almost all of them found now days are badly damaged to say the least. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) Most of the surface is wet and shiny except for one side which shows some light wear as evidenced by the right hand side of the first and the upper portion of the fifth pictures. The pontail marks are as clean as the day it was made. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 19.87mm or 0.782" at the equator. | |||||
