This is a lobed opaque white solid core with blue and aqua-marine bands in the valleys and transparent red on the lobes forming sharp ridges. All is surrounded by 17 near perfectly spaced outer lattice lines that give this old timer plenty of character.
One pontail mark is a melted pig-tail and the other is exquisitely ground with a half-bubble hole in the center--see sixth picture. Manufacture, circa 1850-1870, dates back to some of the earliest glass marbles ever made. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.8 There is a good bit of shine to the marble but there are some tiny pinpricks and sub-surface sparkles, melted dimples, and several miniscule as-mades that likely could have been from some sort of debris on the tool used for the shaping and finishing process. There are no hits, cracks, or damage issues from play. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 21.13mm or 0.832" at the equator. | |||||
