MINT 1-1/32" Martin F. Christensen HAND GATHERED DARK AMBER SLAG

Item# GM2089
This is one of the oldest marbles made in the United States; it dates back to the turn of the 20th century when marbles were still being hand gathered from a single stream of molten glass and spun by hand into the pattern we see now in the finished product.
There weren't that many of these huge old toe-breakers made to begin with and nearly all of them were treasured by the young lads lucky enough to have one. They consequently went the way of old front line soldiers having seen a lot of action. To be able to find one this large and in this wonderful MINT condition is truely amazing.
CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is wet and shiny like a brand new marble. All I can find with a bright light and lens is a piece of oven brick, or something, embedded just to the right of the hole in the "nine"--shown in the first picture. Another piece, below the surface, shown in the fourth picture. I can only see the faintest hint of very light wear that is nearly invisible even in these large pictures.

Size 26.49mm or 1.047" at the equator.
