Marble collectors have long called this marble, marketed as the Peltier National Onyx, their Version of the Slag. Not only did they produce the fewest slags of the leading marble manufacturers, but they also had the only slag product with an easily distinguishable pattern. Avid collectors easily recognize the "feathered" or "feathering" description; Still, the novice can become confused until introduced. The PELTIER page of this website provides several examples of the National Onyx made with differently colored base glass.
The sixth picture will attest; this has to be one of the brightest, most glowing marbles I've had the pleasure of owning. When exposed to UV lighting, the change to vivid green brilliance indicates Uranium Oxide as an ingredient in the final product. Notice how changing the background color affects the color presentation without UV light in the first and second pictures. Transparent yellow is rare for any marble, including those made by all machine-made marble manufacturers and even the old German handmades, GM2156 for example. Some are fluorescent, as in this instance, and some are plain yellow glass; all are a delight to find, at least for me. Years of collecting Peltier Slags have taught me how incredibly scarce they are. Imagine the difficulty of finding one of these yellow examples in the wet mint condition this one presents. CONDITION: WET MINT 9.8 The surface is PRISTINE. This example is one of those marbles taken home, wrapped in cotton, and hidden away in a safe place for the last 100 years.
