Just about every feature of this old German handmade marble is a rarity. The vast majority of the German handmades I have seen have ribbons or lattice lines on or just below the surface. The surface of this specimen has no such decoration at all. So, NAKED. Another first is a transparent ice blue solid "JELLY" core with three opaque white ribbons in the center of the marble. I've seen many "jellys" over the years, but no solid cores with the transparency of this one or its ice blue color. Examples of the transparent ice blue in the machine-made counterparts are abundant. They share a phenomenon: the blue "jelly" changes to transparent-clear when exposed to an Ultra Violet light. A triple-ribbon open core appears to be all that remains, second image. So, a "NAKED" solid core, or any type of core, is a rarity for these German handmade marbles. Transparent ice blue is a color I've never encountered before in a German import. After buying and selling thousands of marbles, this is my first transparent solid Jelly core, so there just can't be all that many around. Finally, when subjected to UV lighting, the disappearing core is a phenomenon heretofore reserved for machine-made marbles. A rare marble indeed! CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) At first glance, it appears we have a mint marble. But, a bright light source and lens reveal a couple of pinpricks that I am satisfied are surface air bubbles, but there they are. Also, a couple of lines are too faint for scratches but could be scuff marks, Northeast quadrant of the third image. You may click here to view the grading system I use.
